The past three years I have been working on a photo project I organized in Cape Town in 2008. The result is a coffee table book of 174 pages of inspiring material about the lives in the townships in South Africa, “told” by young adults who live in these areas.
Ekasi. Our Greatness comes from within.
Ekasi is the most commonly used word for township or “hood” in the Xhosa language.With this book we want to reveal the lifestyles of those people staying in the Cape Town townships. A lot of what people think they know about township life is frightening or sad. It’s true that violence and crime are problems on the Cape Flats, but that’s not the whole story.
